An international visual art competition is being launched in the Black Country UNESCO global Geopark today 1 December 2025.
The geopark team and its partners want to celebrate local talent who can use any media they want (drawing, painting, collage, sculpture) to create an artwork inspired by the beautiful fossils of the Black Country.
The resulting artwork should be sent as an electronic image to the Geopark team at blackcountrygeopark@dudley.gov.uk. This competition is a celebration of the Black Country’s 5th year as a UNESCO Global Geopark and also the 80th year of UNESCO itself.
The Black Country’s winning entry will therefore also be submitted to the European Geopark Network by the team to represent the Black Country Geopark’s entry into the international competition.
The winners will win:
- Family guided fossil hunting trip to Wrens Nest National Nature Reserve
- £25 voucher for arts materials
